California Live | NBC: How To Incorporate Sunscreen Into Your Makeup Routine!
I had so much fun being back on NBC's California Live last week! I shared tips and tricks on how to incorporate sunscreen into your everyday makeup routine!
In case you want more information and you want to shop, I linked all the products I mentioned below. Watch my segment by clicking on the photo above!
I prefer to apply sunscreen before foundation or any makeup. I've tried many facial sunscreens that leave a white residue on the skin and ruin the texture of makeup. I fell in love with the Sun Silk Drops from Coola because it sinks into skin without a trace of residue or buildup! It's a broad-spectrum SPF formula that protects from both UVA and UVB sun rays. It's light, silky smooth and I love the way it makes my skin feel. Ps. It's a California based company that uses ingredients that are natural, organic, sustainable and locally sourced as possible!
This is a unique makeup primer with broad spectrum SPF 35. I like to apply the Tatcha Primer under foundation because it creates a smooth, protected (SPF 35!) matte canvas for the makeup to glide on. It really does disappear quickly into skin making sunscreen application a breeze. If you have trouble with your makeup fading during the day or you have oily skin, this will help give longevity to your application and minimize shine.
Hot Product Alert! Supergoop just released cream eyeshadows with SPF 30! The skin on your eyelid can easily burn in the sun. I'm so excited to share an eyeshadow formula with SPF that stays on and protects the delicate skin on the eyes. The cream colors are gorgeous. I use them alone or under other eyeshadows.
I can't tell you how many times I've tried a lip color with SPF and it ends up having an SPF or a strange chemical taste/aroma. I think lip products with sunscreen are difficult to master and Kiehl's has nailed it! I love that you don't have to compromise wearing a fun color while protecting your lips. Perfect for everyday or vacation!
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends applying sunscreen every two hours. If you wear makeup, that's hard to do. I don't reapply my base sunscreen everyday, so how do I apply sunscreen again? A brush-on SPF formula! The Tarteguard from Tarte is perfect to keep in your handbag or car. Just pump the bottom button and powder is pushed through the soft brush.
Another way to touch-up sunscreen is to use an SPF mist. Most sunscreen sprays I've used "blanket" the skin with a white, greasy formula that disrupts and breaks apart my makeup. I'm excited to share the Set + Protect Micro Mist from Soleil Toujours because it's a refreshing and effective way to reapply sunscreen over makeup. It's not sticky or greasy, and I think it gives the skin a radiant glow. (If you like glowy skin, the mist might be a better choice for you over the brush-on SPF powder). I wanted to give you options! : )
It's time to have fun with our sunscreen and Bare Republic is doing just that with their shimmering sunscreens! I love the Diamond Dust Holographic sunscreen lotion. The shimmer is so pretty on the legs and arms. I've even used this on my face to add a little shine and shimmer to my cheekbones. The company is committed to biodegradable and reef-friendly sunscreens and free of chemical actives and synthetic fragrances! YES!
